If you have stumbled across me while looking for a family lawyer, domestic violence lawyer, or family mediator and you are looking for a different legal or service experience (you want to feel safe, listened to, supported, validated, guided, empowered, or not being taken for a ride by a ‘shark lawyer’) then I am very happy that you have stumbled across me!
I am proud to say I do legal business differently. I am a family lawyer, domestic violence lawyer, criminal lawyer, and family mediator. I specialise in domestic violence – that means I understand the complexities of domestic violence – the cycle of violence and abuse, and power and control – this specialisation helps me assist my family law clients whose family has been affected by domestic violence.
I focus on being a holistic and caring practitioner and see my client’s problems in all their complexity and realness – read about Self Care After Separation & Divorce here. I am your legal angel!
I have a heart- a very big heart. I love helping people; that is why I feel so aligned to helping clients who contact me for family law, criminal law, domestic violence, or Victim Assist advice and help, or want to engage me as their family mediator.
Are you feeling broken, scared, lost, and confused after a family breakdown?
I can help you put your broken heart back together, by helping you with the practicalities of your separation, which allows you time to focus on your emotional and psychological healing. I will be part of your team to help take some of the stress out of it all.
- You will be OK – this is one of the hardest things you will ever go through- but it will get better, and the feelings of hurt will pass.
- Consider seeing a specialist counsellor or psychologist to help you cope emotionally.
- You do not need to solve all your problems on your own. Build a team around you.
- Let’s deal with things in bite sized chunks; I don’t want you to be overwhelmed. This can mean arranging a payment plan with you (if this is what you need), and taking the legal or mediation process one step at a time. There are many different options- we will brainstorm (I love using a big whiteboard with my clients) with you and empower you to make the best decision that suits your personal circumstances (and your family’s circumstances). For example, helping you start the mediation process, helping you write a letter to your former spouse, writing a letter to your former spouse on your behalf, arranging a joint meeting with you and your former spouse, discussing family collaborative law, and then ONLY AFTER ALL NON-LEGAL OPTIONS ARE EXHAUSTED WILL WE TALK ABOUT COURT.
- If you are in danger, we will assess the safest way to help you become safe and out of danger. Safety is always priority- for you and your children. If you are worried about how to keep safe, where you will live, how you will pay for services after separation, we can help you connect with amazing free services in the community. We want to help you holistically. Think of us as your legal angels.
- I will conduct mental health screenings, suicide screenings, and domestic violence screening and risk assessments to ensure I am across all the issues in your particular matter. I will encourage you to share all information about yourself and your former spouse- this is important in understanding if there are any safety or danger risks to you or your children, to learn of any possible tactics (such as delay tactics or manipulative tactics from your former spouse) that may be used, and power imbalances.
- Most of all, I want you to feel empowered over the direction your new life will take. My job is to provide you with legal advice (and I go above and beyond by offering you with referrals to ensure you receive a holistic service, empowerment coaching, and support). I will give you LOTS of options, and can help you weigh up all your different legal options. I want to help build you up enough, and develop a really trusting relationship between us, so you can make confident decisions about your future.
- I will listen to your story. Your story is important. When you first meet me, you will do more talking than me. You are the expert of your life and what you have experienced, and your concerns about the future. I just help put it within the legal framework. I have heard horror stories of clients telling me they felt their lawyer did not listen to them- ugh, rule 101 in my law firm- WE LISTEN TO OUR CLIENT.
We want to work with you: choose us as your family lawyer or family mediator.
I am living my truest purpose when working with my clients. It is such an important role that I do not take lightly- thank you to all my clients for allowing me to live out my dream, and to future clients, I look forward to working with you and helping you put your life back together- and by me helping you, I am helping myself. I am at my happiest when I do the work I love.
