I will be releasing a 3-part series to help lawyers who are setting up their own law firms – to help you with big ticket items that are important in setting up a business, but also in maintaining and running a successful and thriving business. One of the topics in this series of blogs is money and mindset. This morning I caught myself setting my financial intentions down on paper, and I thought that I should share some of my personal journaling I did this morning – my money conscious – these are the thoughts which help my money mindset, and help me to take focused and considered money action.
Cash is Queen (or King) in business!
As the new year sets in I am very consciously setting money targets, goals, and assessing and reflecting on the past year, financially. In 2018 I very proudly won Partner of the Year in the Australian Law Awards, and this was a culmination of our unique legal work at CLEON Legal, and our niche servicing of the market in the domestic and family violence space, but also because of our Firm’s revenue, and profitability. After all, there is no Firm if there is no revenue and profitability, and without financial success, we could not continue to help our clients and make the positive impact in the world, that we achieve. My business is a vessel to help my clients live the life of their dreams, and to also help me live a financially abundant life so I can live the life of my dreams.
Whilst the two businesses I run (CLEON Legal and CLEON Empower) are both heart centred, and these businesses run on kindness and empathy, these are private businesses, and in order to survive, my businesses must have healthy turnover and profit.
I have been coaching many lawyers in the past twelve (12) months – lawyers who are newbies who are setting up their own firms, and lawyers who have been running their own firms for a number of years. Each and every one of these lawyers have encountered problems with 1) money making activities, 2) regular cash flow, 3) charging their worth, and 4) adopting processes and systems to ensure regular sales. A Firm cannot run without clients or revenue. These are fundamental principles of business. As lawyers who set up their own businesses (and are running a business for the first time), it can be difficult to start thinking like a business owner, when you are trained as a lawyer.
So today, in practising what I preach about a) being money focused, and b) taking action to make money, I share with you my personal journaling to keep me on track.
Money generating day $$$
Things I need to do today, to ensure my business thrives, not just survives. I will consciously think about money generating activities.
1. Ensure staff call back all new leads.
2. Send quotes to new leads.
3. Invoice current clients.
4. Be personally focused on money making activities and believe it will happen. Money manifesting.
5. Focus on current monthly financial goals and assess how we are tracking
– do all the things between 1- 4 above to ensure it happens!
